Senior Engineering Technologist - will provide technical expertise with Transmission Compatible Units within the Maximo framework to be utilized in Transmission projects. JOB SUMMARY This is the fourth level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification and considered the Career level for the job hierarchy. Senior Engineering Technologist provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems, and leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently with increased latitude for unreviewed work. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES With Minimal Supervision and increased latitude for unreviewed work: • Provides subject matter technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise. • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities. • Independently prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches. • Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance. • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files. • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally. • Coaches and mentors other Engineering Technologists/CU Admins • Create Maximo material item templates for transmission material items. • Review and correct Maximo transmission material items to follow the developed template format to ensure consistency. • Review current material item specifications to ensure correct manufacturer, part or model number, cost data is accurate and complete. • Review current material items such as transformers, breakers, poles, relays, etc. to ensure proper accounting has been applied to compatible unit. • Work within Maximo to submit new material item requests for items. • Create material item compatible units for new transmission material items. • Submit request to catalog group to consolidate duplicate material items as they are identified. • Review and ensure that unit of measure matches the Material Issue Unit in the Item Master. • Material usage/obsolescence review of substation material items. • Develop queries of Maximo database. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Either 6+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 8+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 12+ years equivalent experience without a degree. Entry before described years of experience would include additional education and/or high performance at management discretion. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Included below the desired requirements and qualifications for the new position: • A general understanding of work methods, material, resources, tools, and equipment used for protection and control • A general understanding of work methods, material, resources, tools, and equipment used for transmission lines • A general understanding of work methods, material, resources, tools, and equipment used for distribution and transmission substations • A detailed understanding of the unit of property catalog (retirement units/units of property, property units, utility accounts, and FERC accounts) • A general understanding of how units of property are unitized and booked in PowerPlan • A general understanding of PowerPlan validation rules and what causes ARC (close) failures • A general understanding of CWIP, RWIP, CIAC, tax jurisdictions, and other information PowerPlan uses • A detailed understanding of Duke and FERC capitalization rules • A detailed understanding of capital work orders and O&M work orders • A general understanding of what accounting states require and what accounting is used in rate cases • A detailed understanding, or able to learn quickly, of CU hierarchy • A detailed understanding of how every piece of data in a CU is used by Maximo and other systems • A detailed understanding of Maximo asset templates, location templates, static and dynamic attribution, job plans, master PMs, and PMs • A detailed understanding of how Duke asset automation works • A detailed understanding of how all the design tools use CUs • A detailed understanding of TIM and how it performs integration between design tools and Maximo • A detailed understanding of Supply Chain processes associated with, o Material Item Creation o Material Item Storeroom setup o Material pricing • A detailed understanding of the following Maximo Applications, o CU Library o CU Estimating o Work Orders o Item Master o Item Request New/Change o Organizations o Service Items • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. • Good written and oral communication skills.
