Brief Description:

Project Description: The Catalyst project is a five-year buy-in mechanism that provides institutional support and technical assistance to the design and implementation of open innovation at USAID, including the Development Innovation Ventures (DIV) program. DIV works with partners to identify, fund, test and scale creative solutions to any global development challenge. DIV accepts proposals from innovators anywhere and in any sector. DIV provides tiered grant funding ($50,000 to $5 million) to test new ideas and advance proven solutions that demonstrate rigorous evidence of impact, cost-effectiveness, and pathways to scale. Position Description: Resonance is seeking several short term and part time consultants to support the DIV program. These are interim, possibly part-time positions. Washington, DC location is preferred but telework from other locations is feasible. Consultants must be ready to apply their analytical and problem-solving skills to some of our planet’s greatest challenges in an entrepreneurial, fun, and fast-paced environment. Consultants will help due diligence innovators and serve as an important strategic advisor for a portfolio of organizations that receive grant awards. They will also help analyze DIV’s past portfolio and the practices of peer funds and suggest process improvements. Ideal candidates will be passionate and committed to DIV’s mission, enjoy working in a highly collaborative environment, and be able to deliver results for clients and stakeholders around the world.


Responsibilities:

Depending on the incumbent’s skills and experience and the composition of DIV applications, duties and responsibilities are expected to include a combination of the following:

  • Perform due diligence and financial analysis on a number of proposals, provide technical feedback and guidance to the applicants and participate in DIV’s process for making investment decisions
  • Help expand and leverage the roster of USAID and external experts providing feedback on proposals
  • Proactively provide technical and strategic expert guidance and resolve complex  problems with partners to identify ways to improve business plans and execution
  • Recommend appropriate milestones and monitoring KPIs
  • Support USAID Grant Managers as they issue grants, oversee and manage DIV’s portfolio, and help DIV provide various types of acceleration services
  • Serve as a focal point for supporting DIV’s portfolio in a specific sector / geography
  • Help grow DIV’s pipeline of innovations with evidence of impact and cost effectiveness
  • Develop relationships with external follow-on private investors and USAID stakeholders to help to advance the work of DIV grantees.
  • Research and analyze trends in international development and DIV’s past portfolio and data and contribute to knowledge products.
  • Benchmark practices and results of peer funders to identify opportunities to iterate on DIV’s processes and standards to improve effectiveness and efficiency
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in business, public policy, economics, or relevant field
  • At least 5+ years’ professional experience as a management consultant, investor, entrepreneur, or grant maker
  • Strong analytical skills and experience due diligence and supporting social enterprises, businesses, government programs, or NGOs in developing countries
  • Team player with proven results when operating under tight deadlines.
  • Quick learner and entrepreneurial problem solver who is able to identify areas for improvement, iterate, and deliver results
  •  A proven track record of building trusted relationships with partners
  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills.
  • Sense of humor  
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
