Brief Description:

Resonance is exploring ways in which we can support businesses that are trying to take their products and services to new markets and a new tier of customer at the Base of the Pyramid (BoP). In this growing practice area of Unlocking Markets, we have worked primarily with technology and extractive industries. With this foundation in place, we are exploring ways in which we can better understand customer needs and our ability to deliver services that can solve their problems. Accordingly, we are seeking an MBA student (or recent grad) as a Summer Fellow in Resonance’s Burlington, Vermont, office for 8 weeks (May – August, subject to Fellow’s academic calendar schedule) to help us better understand the Inclusive Business marketspace. The Fellow will conduct market research to help answer the following questions:

• What are the overall market trends in Inclusive Business? Market size? Key themes? Industry leaders?
• Where do professionals in the Inclusive Business function sit within their companies (sustainability, new markets, corporate affairs, supply chain, etc.)? What are pain points and challenges?
• Who are the competitors in this space and what services are they offering?
• Building on Resonance’s core capabilities, what (if any) problems are we best positioned to help solve in Inclusive Business? What is our value proposition?
• What are the key Inclusive Business convenings, events and publications? What industry associations (if any) do Inclusive Business professionals look to for inspiration in this arena?
• Based on the above research and analysis, the Fellow will provide findings and recommendations regarding Resonance’s strategy regarding Inclusive Business. What is the best modality for Resonance to explore further?



Desk Review and Key Informant interview list. The Fellow will conduct a thorough desk review, including a literature review and generating a list of up 30-50 key informants to be interviewed for this research.
Key Informant Interviews. Based on the above list, the Fellow will interview 25-30 key informants. In addition, the Fellow will conduct 5-10 internal interviews to better understand Resonance capabilities.
Draft Presentation. The Fellow will prepare a draft report in PowerPoint format for Resonance to provide comment, feedback and request clarifications/edits/changes.
Final Presentation. Upon approval of the revised report, the Fellow will deliver the presentation to Resonance staff and leadership. The Fellow will provide a copy of the PowerPoint in both ppt and pdf formats
Blog post. Working with Resonance communications staff, the Fellow will draft a blog post on Inclusive Business for posting on Resonance website.
Bibliography and List of Contacts. The Fellow will prepare a list of sources cited as well as a list (including current contact information) of key informants interviewed.


• Currently enrolled (or a recent grad) of a graduate program in business (MBA), finance or economics
• Not less than 3 years previous professional experience
• Strong academic and/or professional background related to Inclusive Business, particularly in frontier markets
• Possess strong qualitative and quantitative research skills
• Demonstrated outstanding written and oral communications skills
• Previous experience in market research and/or management consulting helpful, but not required
• Eligibility to work in US
