WUSC (World University Service of Canada) is a Canadian international development non-profit organization. Present in over 25 countries, we improve education, employment, and empowerment opportunities for youth and other marginalized people around the world. We work with a unique and powerful network of post-secondary institutions, corporate partners, and volunteers to create a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable world for youth. Our vision is to create a world where all young people can grow up in safe, secure, and supportive environments; where they can learn, work, and play a vital role in their country’s development.
An established Canadian non-profit organization, WUSC has a history that reaches back more than seven decades. Tens of thousands of Canadians already have a personal connection to the organization. They volunteered on their university, college, or CEGEP campus to help refugee youth resettle in Canada and pursue higher education. They gained their first overseas experience through our long-standing International Seminar. They directly contributed to positive change in developing countries through our international volunteer cooperation opportunities. Our Stewardship and Fund Development Specialist works with this vast network of alumni to continue their engagement with WUSC.
We know many more Canadians can get behind the notion that education changes the world, yet they do not know about WUSC’s work for youth education, employment, and empowerment. Our Stewardship and Fund Development Specialist also reaches out into these new networks and communities to raise WUSC’s profile in Canada. She/he plays a central role in helping WUSC to innovate and grow.
Our Stewardship and Fund Development Specialist plays a catalytic role in mobilizing Canadian funds to help marginalized young women and men realize to their full potential.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
You love connecting with people and will excel in maintaining and nurturing positive relationships with current donors
You are quick to seize new opportunities and will be able to identify and cultivate new major individual and corporate donors through the development and implementation of a Major Gifts Plan
You appreciate the contributions individual Canadians have made to global development and will leverage this appreciation to secure greater alumni participation in WUSC’s fundraising activities through the development and implementation of an Alumni Engagement Plan
You will apply your creativity, and your excellent writing and storytelling skills, to lead an innovative and successful annual giving program (direct mail, newsletters, phone campaigns, and Monthly Donor Program)
You can effectively match needs with opportunities to secure event sponsorship, particularly for our annual International Forum
You have an eye on the future to guide the development and implemention of a Legacy Giving Program
- You pay great attention to detail in overseeing gift processing, receipting, gift analysis, and donor database maintenance (Raiser’s Edge) in compliance with regulatory authorities
You know how to get people excited to fundraise and will lead WUSC’s volunteer (third party) fundraising initiatives, in collaboration with various departments
You enjoy interpreting data and will deliver quarterly fundraising analysis reports
You value social media and can bring innovative ideas to oversee the implementation of a digital fundraising plan, including the coordination of online giving
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field
- A minimum of five years of successful, direct experience in fundraising, including the solicitation of online giving, major gifts and planned giving
- Additional experience in sales and marketing
- Progressively responsible experience and training
- A knack for asking people for money, you found your calling in fundraising
- Motivated, creative, hardworking, willfully optimistic, and a team player
- A strong communicator – written and verbal, and can adapt your style for diverse audiences
- Passionate about fundraising and good stewardship with a diverse range of donors and corporate partners
- Able to work in English (French would be an asset)
- Experienced in a non-profit international development organization
- Committed to the mission and values of WUSC
- Able to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle
- Able to multi-task
- Able to work under pressure of deadlines and dollar goals
- Able to travel across the country
- Available for weekend and evening work
- Knowledgeable in Raiser’s Edge and data management
